Cop Racism: More Black People shot 'Accidentally'

I truly thought I would be covering something else today. Random and exciting. Sadly I saw this in the morning and felt I had to share it. Now I understand that being a police officer is a very hard job to take on and respect anyone who does so. But these kind of shootings need to stop. Like one of those says in The Young Turks video, cops have both lethal and non-lethal weapons for a reason. It is coming to a point where I genuinely believe people need to form some kind of private neighborhood watch force and only call cops when there is a lethal criminal in their mist. There were also at least two serious instances last year (including one where the man was still in his car) where lethal shooting of white people by cops were blatantly unnecessary. So while yes it has been mostly reported to be happening to black people, no race is completely safe from this. There needs to be action and juries need to stop letting these cops go with a slap on the wrist. The question should not be if the shooting was intentional or not but with all the training cops get was a gun necessary in the situation at all. I mean tasers and batons and etc. are there aside from the gun for a reason.

Well that's my thoughts and the video I saw is below. Let me know what you think and be safe my friends over the holidays. Of every race.

Merry Christmas!

No matter how you Celebrate Christmas I wish you a wonderful holiday and a prosperous New Year. I will be back blogging on Monday the 28th.

Personally my family and I will be celebrating the birth of Jesus and enjoying some excellent home cooking. Nice to relax with your parents when neither you or your siblings have kids. Quiet.

P.S. : Over the holidays like any other day of the year sometimes stupid arguments pop up. For example.

Source: Saw it on Facebook

Please try to rise above the fray or come up with a cute answer if you must. Here's mine below. Happy Holidays and this meme popped up on a debate on if the song White Christmas is racist.

Note:  I am black and since White Christmas deals with snow all I can think for other colors is this. Pink - Someone throwing a streamer in your face. Black - Tar? Yellow: Rain I will not step out in. Blue: Shit the sky is falling! Run! Red: Someone got their eye poked out by that bitch throwing skittles. Green: Who just threw grass? So at the end of the day I'll just stick with White Christmas.

Waiting on Wednesday: Return to the Isle of the Lost : A Descendants Novel by Melissa De La Cruz

Waiting on Wednesday is held weekly by Breaking the Spine. This event spotlights upcoming releases bloggers are anxiously awaiting to get their hands on.

Today I am sharing a sequel to a book based off the popular Disney television movie The Descendants.

Book: Return to the Isle of the Lost : A Descendants Novel

Release Date: May 3, 2016 (Book Depository) / May 24, 2016

Summary from The Book Depository: There's no place like home. Especially if home is the infamous Isle of the Lost. Mal, Evie, Carlos, and Jay haven't exactly turned their villainous noses up at the comforts of Auradon after spending their childhoods banished on the Isle. After all, meeting princes and starring on the Tourney team aren't nearly as terrible as Mal and her friends once thought they would be. But when they receive a mysterious invitation to return to the Isle, Mal, Evie, Carlos, and Jay can't help feeling comfortable in their old hood-and their old ways. Not everything is how they left it, though, and when they discover a dark mystery at the Ise's core, they'll have to combine all of their talents in order to save the kingdom.

Purchase: Book Depository, Amazon

I really enjoyed the television movie and got the first book soon after. The characters are fun to follow and it will be very interesting to see what they get up to in this upcoming book.

Waiting on Wednesday: Passengers by Alexandra Bracken

Waiting on Wednesday is held weekly by Breaking the Spine. This event spotlights upcoming releases bloggers are anxiously awaiting to get their hands on.

This week's pick only recently caught my radar. But the story just has a certain kick that has me intrigued and ready to devour.

Book: Passengers by Alexandra Bracken

Release Date: January 5, 2016

Summary (The Book Depository) In one devastating night, violin prodigy Etta Spencer loses everything she knows and loves. Thrust into an unfamiliar world by a stranger with a dangerous agenda, Etta is certain of only one thing: she has traveled not just miles, but years from home. And she's inherited a legacy she knows nothing about from a family whose existence she's never heard of. Until now. Nicholas Carter is content with his life at sea, free from the Ironwoods-a powerful family in the Colonies-and the servitude he's known at their hands. But with the arrival of an unusual passenger on his ship comes the insistent pull of the past that he can't escape and the family that won't let him go so easily. Now the Ironwoods are searching for a stolen object of untold value, one they believe only Etta, his passenger, can find. In order to protect her, Nick must ensure she brings it back to them-whether she wants to or not. Together, Etta and Nicholas embark on a perilous journey across centuries and continents, piecing together clues left behind by the traveler who will do anything to keep the object out of the Ironwoods' grasp. But as they get closer to the truth of their search, and the deadly game the Ironwoods are playing, treacherous forces threaten to separate Etta not only from Nicholas but from her path home forever.

Reviews that came with the summary "I was truly transported through this novel, a willing passenger pulled through its pages alongside riveting, romantic characters and an immense world with no end in sight. Fans of Outlander will see so much of Claire in Etta, who holds a smart and headstrong lens to history. I can't wait to voyage through the next volume." -Victoria Aveyard, #1 New York Times best-selling author of Red Queen "Grabs you by the heart from its opening notes and doesn't let go until its knockout, blockbuster finale." -Sarah J. Maas, New York Times best-selling author of the Throne of Glass series "This time-traveling adventure is rich in detail, the slowburning relationship between Etta and Nicholas will leave many readers breathless, and the startling cliffhanger will reel them back for the next installment." -Booklist "[Passenger] doesn't let up its high-octane pace until the final page. . . [A] strong new series." -School Library Journal "Bracken keeps pages turning." -Kirkus Reviews "[A] rousing series opener. . . The clever historical allusions, well-crafted subplots, and cliffhanger ending should leave readers awaiting the next volume." -Publishers Weekly

30 Seconds Promo and Apology

One of the sad realities of blogging is missing out or breaking promises. In November I was among the bloggers who gladly offered to help promote an upcoming sale for 30 Seconds by Chrys Fey. I was back in the blogging fray and ready to help. Unfortunately November turned out to not be exactly the perfect month with fatigue issues, watching a bad flu and getting diarrhea...twice. So I ended up missing the sale completely and Chrys's email sat on unnoticed. By the time I recalled it...yeah. I felt bad. But decided after some thinking to just do a regular promo for her book. As bloggers we are still human and will make mistakes. What we should do though after that is try to make up for it however we can.

30 Seconds Promotion

Blurb:
When Officer Blake Herro agreed to go undercover in the Mob, he thought he understood the risks. But he's made mistakes and now an innocent woman has become their target. He's determined to protect her at all costs.

The Mob's death threat turns Dr. Dani Hart's life upside down, but there is one danger she doesn’t anticipate. As she's dodging bullets, she's falling in love with Blake. With danger all around them, will she and Blake survive and have a happy ending, or will the Mob make good on their threat?

Excerpt:

She had no time to react when a strong force bowled her through the doorway of her apartment, and a large hand plastered over her mouth. The man she had bumped into on the stairs had a firm grip on her as he kicked the door closed behind them. She struggled to get free, but his hold kept her back pressed against his chest.
“It’s okay. I’m a cop. My name is Blake Herro.” He hauled her into the living room. “There are six armed men coming up the stairs. We need to hide. Where can we hide?”
Her mind went blank, she even forgot about the ice cream.
“Where?” he demanded with a quick shake.
She pointed to the six-foot long, three-foot high handcrafted cedar chest she used for a coffee table. Officer Herro pulled her to it and flung open the lid.
“Get in,” he ordered.

Movie Chat

Hey everyone hope you are having a lovely Friday. Today I am just going to write about the movies I have seen recently since October.

Source: Wikipedia

I saw this movie in October and I really enjoyed it. HOT2 brought back the old gang along with some new characters namely Mavis and Johnny's son Dennis. A lot of the story has to do with Dracula not wanting Mavis to leave the hotel because she fear's for Dennis's safety since he is yet to become a vampire. If you loved the first movie I am sure you will probably like this too, Me personally I loved it. All the comedy, drama and characters were spot on. There were even some dark parts including a scary possession scene you need to see to believe.

Peanuts (2015 film)

Source: Wikipedia

What can I say? Blue Sky did a fantastic job bringing the Peanut gang to life. Charlie Brown was Charlie Brown and Snoopy...damn he sort of stole the show a bit but in a good way. I don't want to give too much away so I will just say this movie was beyond amazing. One of the best animated movies of the year behind Inside Out (and if you didn't like Inside Out I would definitely recommend this to you if you like Animated Movies or Peanuts. If you liked it, go for it still). Oh and I will just say keep an eye out for a certain female character who pretty much reminds us of why Charlie Brown is such a wonderful character at heart. The feels man.

But there is one gripe I have and it is not with the movie. It is actually with movie makers. STOP NOT PROMOTING YOUR STUFF BEYOND FIRST WORLD COUNTRIES! Yes there might be some promotion but almost all is in that one set of top countries. Which is ironic since in some of them movie goers numbers are actually dropping. I can't tell you how many times I just don't understand why places like the Caribbean are not getting more Skype chats from stars of movies or directors. Especially with movies that need that extra oomph which Blue Sky Studios needs since they are not as well known as Dreamworks Animation or Pixar. It saddens me when I see the low number of money made internationally for this movie. Peanuts is a way of life for some people and I know a lot of people in Jamaica did read the comics as kids or watch the show. In fact a lot of people did come when I did. But Peanuts had been regulated to one of the smaller Aud. rooms even with movies like Suffragette being there. Why? Because there is not enough promotion done to make it seem like that many people will come.

Home (Dreamworks Animation movie) when I went to see it weeks after it came out was still airing in one of the large Aud. rooms? Why? Because it got a lot of praise for having a black starring character who was also from the Caribbean and a girl. Not something that happened very often and Rihanna definitely helped boost the appeal. Plus Dreamworks Animation is super popular and well known. But Peanuts and Blue Sky Studios does not have that advantage and while I love this movie like crazy it is disappointing to see it struggle to even make double it's nearly 100 mill budget. Hollywood needs to recognize the need for worldwide promotion. Seeing stars through cable is no longer enough. Internet is king now get on foreign third world channels and websites to expand your damn audience. I mean seriously.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2

Source: Wikipedia

I saw this movie this past Tuesday. This one is the best of the bunch for me. While I have heard complaints about not enough action and so on. I was taken by the characters, dialogue, visuals....it was wonderful in my eyes and I would recommend anyone go see it (unless you just hate Hunger Games then no, leave that hate away from the audience thank you). Katniss is back in this epic conclusion and damn does she take some blows both figuratively and literally. President Coin also shines but a different sort of way. Let's just say when I saw a top 5 Wednesday on Youtube about characters you would want to drown. She is pretty much the Professor Umbridge of Hunger Games to me. Snow might be the main adversary but that woman...I love to hate Snow. Coin...no. For anyone who thinks YA movies are only about romance and childish happy ending plots...you need to go see this movie and get your mind blown. Things happen in this movie okay. There is even a scene straight out of a horror movie. Oh my God. I will stop right here before I tell the entire movie. But yeah, I highly recommend this one.

So thanks for coming in to read my little movie chat and know I appreciate all you who stop by. To my blogging friends and the rest of the community I give all my love and wish you a lifetime of happiness. See you on Monday guys!

IWSG: December is here

Another IWSG has arrived and we all get to share our insecurities and other feelings with the world. Today though I am just glad to be back on the blogging front. Plus Check this Blog Out is back and each day I add up to five blog posts from around the web that I think you should take a look see.

However we are also in the month of December which means Christmas is just around the corner. Also my birthday came and went on Sunday. I didn't anything special that day but yesterday I treated my mother (and myself, no lie) to an evening feature of Mockingjay Part 2. We had a great time and that movie was a lovely send off to both an amazing book and movie franchise (I know they plan to do more movies in the future but for now this is the end). Now if only the Divergent movies could step up their game. A lot.

So thanks for stopping by. My next post will be on Friday and next week I will be starting book reviews again. I know exciting right?

And yes I mentioned December without any Christmasy images or gifs. It is only Dec. 2. I am not the radio. We all know what has started playing already from October right? It gets annoying fast and I am not doing that here.

Waiting on Wednesday: Reconnected
